Ladder Leg Levelers

Ladder Leg Safety

Whenever a worker is asked to work above ground level an element of danger is introduced into the work.  A job that can be considered routine on a level surface at ground level can suddenly take on dangerous attributes when performed ten feet above the ground on a platform that may be less than stable. Whether you are the person working in the air or the person that has sent them aloft,  it is necessary to insist on the safest platform possible.

On any job site safety is always of a prime concern.  Often when a ladder is required there will not be a level plane on which to rest both legs.  To try to do a one legged balancing act while working aloft is a violation of all safety rules.  With necessity being the mother of invention we now have available Ladder Leg Levelers.  When you work on an uneven surface attach the leveler to the ladder leg that is short and extend it to reach level ground.  The leveler can be attached to either side so you will always be working from a level ladder.

The Ladder Leg Levelers are useful in many applications. When working on an inclined roof top the lower ladder leg can be extended so that the ladder then remains level and perpendicular to the base line of the roof.  It can also be used when working on a terraced surface.  The lower leg is extended to add the height needed to level the terrace.   Many homes are built on sloping surfaces and will not support the use of a ladder without a leg leveler. Trying to prop the short leg up with a box or lumber can be dangerous. The ladder can easily slip off of a makeshift support and result in serious injury.

Look for Ladder Leg Levelers that are easy to install and whose components are as strong or stronger than the ladder itself. Quality Ladder Leg Levelers will be adjustable so they can be attached to either leg. They should be attached to the leg in at least two places. Some mount on the bottom two rungs, others will bolt to the outside and others will use a combination of the two. As the leg is extended it needs to be able to lock firmly in place using locking pins.  Also look for extenders that have adjustable feet.  When working on a grade the foot may need to be rotated to provide the best grip.  Insure that your leg levelers are designed for the material your ladder is made of.  Some levelers designed for aluminium will not work on fiberglass ladders.
