How Much Do You Need A Leveler
Some camp sites provide a level surface to park your trailer or fifth wheel on. These make camping easy as all that is necessary to do is to use the front jacks to make the fore and aft ends level. Others, and by far the most prevalent are on rough less than level ground that requires both fore and aft and side to side leveling. Looking around some camp grounds it becomes obvious that many people do not see the value in a level camping vehicle. Aside from the difficulty of sleeping on an angle there is the potential for doing serious damage to your installed equipment. Liquid will seek it's own level. Coolant in refrigeration and air conditioning systems is liquid and if not leveled can do damage to the system. So, what does one do to insure their camp trailer is level? The more expensive motor homes come with self leveling hydraulic systems that automatically bring the rig to level with the flip of a switch. Smaller units do not have that advantage and must seek other means to level. One way is to jack up the low side and place wooden blocks under the tires. This can be a slow, tedious and sometimes unsafe method of leveling. Another way is to check the level prior to putting the trailer in it's final position. Then place a two by four or four by four next to the low side wheel and back the trailer onto it. Finally there is a new method that simplifies side to side leveling for the single axel vehicle. It is the Bal Single Axle Leveler. The Bal Single Axle Leveler is made from a heavy duty tubular construction to mount on most 13", 14" and 15" camper wheels. The unit is slid under the low side wheel until the wheel rests against the two flat wheel rests.
